This blog stems from a comment often made by my mother that today's youth does not really have a life. She doesnt agree that today's generation works hard and parties harder. And when I start to argue with her she just gives me her characteristic smirk and says 'Look at yourself' and that shuts me up.
I look around myself and i actually realize that a majority (if not all of them, let us discount that percentage of the youth which is born with a silver spoon) of the youth today is working hard to the extent of sabotaging their own life. There are various reasonings to this..Peer pressure, competition, standard of living, needs, necessities yadda yadda yadda..But in between all this, how much of life do we actually live?Simple pleasures of life start taking a back seat. Life begins to center around work and suddenly it isnt too long before you realise that you are practically living your work. The thrill and pleasure which you got from work because you 'enjoyed' your work suddenly becomes a dire necessity because you are used to the good life that comes along with working very hard. Because, it is always accompanied by good monetary return. Though for some people it is not necessarily the money but fame and position that has more importance. Different people have different priorities so it hardly makes any sense to generalise.
Everybody wants a good life. But it is very important to draw a line somewhere. It is human to be dissatisfied. But it is unnatural to have too many wants. In fact the more the wants, the more the dissatisfaction!Being satisfied does not come easy, especially in todays world where competition reigns supreme in all areas. But it is the mental control one exercises in those testing times that will decide one's fate. there is more to life than work and money.Life is also about family and friends. Life is about that one smile you give your neighbor on your way out every morning on your way to work. Life is about all those long walks which you enjoy with good music blaring in your ears while you spend time with yourself.Yes, life has a lot more to offer which most of us seem to have sadly forgotten about.
So I guess the solution lies in prioritizing and most importantly learning to say 'NO' at the right time and the right place. It is then that you realize that life is worth living for some other reasons as well. But how do you work all this out?Let us face it, it always boils down to the problem of choices. So my last word on this?..Make your choice and face the music, whether good or bad:)
P.S. My song or the blog..A hard day's night by the Beatles..Need i say more??:)
